The blessing basket reminds us that even though our lives may have a scarcity of the things we want, or think we need, and may seem empty, if we take the time to look around and within, we can find more blessings than we ever imagined for which to be thankful.
The blessing basket may look empty, but it is overflowing with God’s love, spontaneous gifts, and blessings. The greatest blessings have no monetary value, are not tangible.
They are:
The love and respect of family and friends.
A spontaneous smile and a hug.
Being the recipient of a random act of kindness.
Being the benefactor of a random act of kindness.
The knowledge that you like and respect yourself for the choices you are making in your life.
The gift of peace and stillness that enables us to hear the cry of the regal hawk, the song of the whippoorwill, the hoot owl calling; that allows us to listen to the wind moving melodiously through the trees.
The eyes to see gentle ripples on a stream catch the sunlight, an impatient wildflower poking through the lingering snow, the sky painting itself in pastels of pink, orange, and yellow as it wakens to the brilliant blue of a new day.
The childish wonder and delight of chasing snowflakes and fireflies.
The ability to enjoy and appreciate the majestic beauty of the world which God has provided.
The grace to be thankful for unearned mercies and answered prayers.
Find a basket, buy a basket, or weave your own basket, and remind yourself to revel in the simplicity of God’s most monumental blessings.
